Program Assistant for Family Literacy Program
Title: Early Learner Program Assistant
Pay: $11/hour
Hours: 9:00 A.M. - 11:30 A.M. Monday through Thursday
Program Dates: Concurrent with RIMSD District Calendar, starting September
Program Locations: Church of Peace
Primary Function
Under the supervision of the ELP Teacher and Family Programming Director, the ELP Assistant is responsible for helping the ELP Teacher to plan and execute various activities for children ranging in ages from 0-4 years. This is a unique opportunity to work in a diverse, multicultural preschool setting within Spring Forward’s Family Literacy Program. Children in our program have varying linguistic abilities and backgrounds.
Key Roles (Essential Job Responsibilities)
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Exhibits and maintains a sincere interest in providing each child with a positive learning experience, with a focus on providing a supportive learning environment for the child
Demonstrates a positive, courteous, and enthusiastic attitude with the children, parents, and FLP personnel in day-to-day activities
Ensures the safety and wellbeing of all children in our care at all times
Strives to increase children’s competencies in various life and educational skills, including but not limited to hygiene, appropriate classroom behavior, and English and literacy skills as appropriate
Assists in keeping the classroom neat and clean, and all equipment and supplies in good order
Participates in staff meetings and all training events
Follows and adheres to all safety policies and procedures
Arrives to work on time and dressed in the proper attire
Manages children’s behavior and helps resolve conflict and discipline issues in conjunction with ELP teacher
Cares for young children as necessary and appropriate for the child’s age and needs
Skills/Knowledge Preferred
At least 19 years of age
High school diploma or equivalency
At least one year of experience working with preschool-aged children
Ability to manage behavior problems
Strong interpersonal skills
Exhibits patience and understanding while working with groups of very young ELLs
Experience working with a diverse group of children preferred
Positive attitude, ability to think on your feet, and a love of children are a must
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
Must be able to lift 25 pounds
Must be willing to work in a dynamic, energetic, fast-paced environment
