Spring Forward after-school programs are held up to four days a week at six sites, serving K- 3 students in the Rock Island-Milan School District. The daily schedule at each site will include an after-school snack, homework help, instruction and enrichment, physical activity and a meal at the end of day. Students are enrolled in the program based on identified classroom deficiencies and tutoring/instructional needs. We focus enrollment on struggling readers first through third grade with a goal of having all program participants reading by third grade.
Spring Forward also offer STEAM Clubs activities. The value of STEM is well understood among educators but many have challenged the exclusivity of STEM fields as the sole incubators of innovation. An increasing number of leaders are inserting Art to STEM to produce STEAM. Adding art to the equation inspires creativity and fosters skills of critical thinking and problem solving, communication and collaboration, and creativity and innovation.
Spring Forward hosts many enrichment partners as guests for STEAM activities, including but not limited to Nahant Marsh Education Center, Putnam Museum, Illinois Extension 4H , Figge Art Museum and Quad Cities Art Guild. Other partners will include Ballet Quad Cities, WQPT, River Action, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts.
