Spring Forward Learning Center (SFLC) aims to serve over 400 students at five elementary schools and two junior high programs during the upcoming academic school year. Our purpose is to provide children with a safe after school environment where children receive literacy instruction, homework help and nourishment. SFLC sites include Frances Willard, Rock Island Academy, Longfellow, Thomas Jefferson and Center for Math and Science Elementary Schools and Edison and Washington Junior Highs.
SFLC programs continue to evolve large in part to a program committee that includes Rock Island-Milan District’s Teaching and Learning Staff, elementary teachers and SFLC Staff and Board. At our elementary school sites, the committee identified a need to target enrollment in first through third grades. This strategy aligns with the School District and community goal of having all students reading by third grade.
To ensure that we are reaching the teachers who are most in need, SFLC Staff works with teachers at each school to identify students who are falling behind and who would benefit from additional instruction. Once enrolled, students are placed into small groups with educators who customize lessons to fit their needs.
